Alteration in Address Label
- Summary
- In case that there is wrongly-written information in address label, or addressee’s address is confirmed to be relocated to a new address after dispatch, sender may request to correct the wrong information or redirect the item to a new address.
- If an already-dispatched item does not need to be sent to the addressee, the sender may request to return the item.
- Requests for alteration in address label or return will be processed either in accordance with domestic regulations, when made before dispatch preparation, or in accordance with international postal regulations, when made after dispatch preparation or dispatch. However, those requests are not effective when made after delivery to the addressee in the destination country. So please note that requests for alteration in address label or return are only available when the requesting documents arrive at the office in charge before the item is delivered to the addressee.
- Item category available for filing a request are registered mail, parcels, recorded delivery, ordinary letters, and express mail. The claimant should be the sender, and requests can be made in the origin country as well as the third country.
- Requests made before dispatch preparation
- The requests for return or alteration in address label, when made before dispatch preparation, are reviewed by considering the following details:
- Confirmation for the claimant as a legitimate sender (identification, proof of postage, etc.)
- If requests are made for items that are already dispatched or prepared for dispatch to the IPO, it should be confirmed whether the requesting documents can arrive at the IPO before the item is ready to be sent to the destination country, taking account of delivery standard for domestic mail.
- It should be judged whether the acceptance of sender’s request does not hinder operation.

- For requests on letters or EMS: Fee for 1-class domestic facsimile transmission
- For requests on parcels: Basic postage for domestic mail
- Please note that if the requesting documents cannot arrive at the IPO before the item is ready to be sent, they should be processed according to the next article.

- Requests made after dispatch preparation or dispatch
- Requesting documents should accompany the copy of address label, if possible,

- By mail: 1,800 KRW
- By facsimile: 4,800 KRW
- It should be judged whether the acceptance of sender’s request does not hinder operation.
